Three-quarters of patients in London use digital tools to access primary care

May 2, 2024

A report from the Health Innovation Network suggests that as many as three in four Londoners have used digital tools to access primary care services and that most people find that using these tools allows them to manage their healthcare more independently. More than 3,000 patients from across London contributed to the report by completing an online survey or participating in focus groups.

GP Pathfinder Clinics is leading the way in offering digital-first primary care services in London, operating a digital-first model which prioritises 24/7 access for its patients. Launched at the end of 2023, this model has transformed how patients request and book consultations or request sick notes, referral letters, or test results.

The GP Pathfinder Clinics digital telephony system means that patients can call their practice at any time and their request will be automatically transcribed into a digital form. The patient is then triaged to determine the type of consultation they need or to address specific requests such as, referral letters, or test results, so they can be navigated onto the most appropriate care pathway.

Patients can also make online requests for consultations or services through the online triage and consultation tool, eConsult. Patients access eConsult via the practice website and are processed through our clinical triage system. Patients can also use a 'live chat' feature for instant feedback.
